The Piezo Scaler™ is an ultrasonic tool that allows us to rapidly remove hard deposits of plaque and tartar from your teeth without scraping. High-frequency vibrations work beneath the gumline and into the deep pockets that can form around your teeth, as in the case of gum disease treatments. Many patients report that they experienced less discomfort with the Piezo Scaler than with traditional scaling instruments. Your teeth will never have felt so clean! Water Rules Water, especially fluoridated water, is the best beverage for maintaining your oral health. That's because fluoride helps to make teeth more resistant to the acid attacks that can cause cavities. As of 2012, nearly 75 percent of the U.S. population had access to fluoridated water, so drinking water from your own kitchen sink can help prevent dental problems. Fruits and Veggies Pack an Extra Punch Fruits and veggies are an important part of any balanced diet, and they are also good for your teeth. Since they are high in water and fiber, they help to balance the sugars they contain and help to clean your teeth. Chewing also helps to stimulate saliva production, which washes harmful acids and food particles away from your teeth. Above article from: MouthHealthy.org Hatch Dental Thomas Hatch, DDS 208 N. Nourishing Nuts Nuts contain protein which help strengthen and protect your teeth. Also, chewing helps to stimulate saliva production, which naturally cleans your mouth. A root canal can save an infected tooth or even one with damaged roots. Prior to the root canal, the only option for these situations was dental extraction. Missing teeth can lead to more serious oral health issues and should be avoided at all costs. The good news is that we are specially trained and experienced in advanced root canal therapy. With modern anesthetics and technology, the process of fixing a tooth by excavating the pulp chamber and replacing it with filling material has become quite manageable. It’s never too early to get children in the habit of good oral care. Of course, it’s up to parents to take the “first steps.” Finding new ways to model good dental habits and practice them with your kids is key. The sooner kids begin to take charge of their own teeth, the happier and healthier they (and you) will be. And the payoffs over a lifetime are immeasurable. Don’t Worry-You’re Not Alone If you think it’s a challenge to teach your kids good oral care, you’re in good company. Tooth decay is one of the most common childhood diseases. And studies show that almost 50% of kids between six and eight have had at least one cavity.1 These are just a couple of reasons why it’s so important to help kids understand right from the start that proper dental habits are a smart idea. Tooth cavities aren't uncommon - but with the right dental health know-how, you can help prevent them. It all starts with proper brushing, daily flossing, and fluoride. Get the details right here.
What Causes Tooth Cavities? Cavities are holes in the teeth resulting from acid attack. They generally start in the enamel, but can spread to the softer inner layer of the tooth. Tooth cavities are caused by decay that can occur when foods containing carbohydrates become trapped between teeth, and are not completely removed with brushing and flossing. Bacteria living in the mouth digest these foods, generating acidic byproducts that can eat away at tooth enamel.
Help Prevent Tooth Cavities Fluoride, which is found in most public drinking supplies, some mouth rinses, and Crest toothpastes, helps prevent tooth cavities by slowing the breakdown of enamel and speeding up the remineralization process. Check with your dental professional to see if your drinking water is fluoridated. If it isn't, he or she may recommend that you use high concentration fluoride treatments.
To help strengthen weak spots in tooth enamel, and help prevent the early stages of tooth decay, brush regularly with a fluoridated toothpaste, floss daily, and visit your dental office regularly for professional cleanings.

Instilling good habits early, in an environment that's comfortable and fun, is essential for a lifetime of good oral health. It's important to be aware of the reasons children's teeth can be very susceptible to cavities at a young age. Kids aren't able to brush well on their own, so we encourage parents to be involved in their child's daily dental care to ensure both thorough cleaning and the development of proper dental habits. Acid increases the risk of cavities when there is prolonged exposure. This can happen with little kids that tend to "graze," or eat small meals throughout the day. It can also happen when a tooth is not as clean as it should be, stimulating acid production. The good news is that identifying poor dietary and hygiene habits, along with applying a fluoride varnish to the mineralizing teeth, can significantly reduce the chance of your child having a cavity.
